Thanks for the pointer Jon, if I find myself there on a Sunday I'll pay a visit. However, from the sound of things I'm afraid I'm much more likely to make an effort to get to Lara's friend's church!

re the pew removal. It is rumoured that Kirkintilloch Baptist (coudl also be a good contendor but perhaps too far outside Glasgow) anyway they sold their pews when rebuilding their church and the money they made paid for all the new chairs!

Perhaps if the price was right it could even pay for projectors etc in 'not-yet-high-tec' churches.

good luck with 2nd round

Hey Niall

If you're prepared to move to Australia, there is a home church that my friend runs called "Beer n Bibles".

They meet fortnightly... {:->

Niall, just do a Google search for the Free Presbyterians, and you'll find your niche I should think.

And Simon, do you realise that all these church people now are going to be extra friendly as long as they know they are still in the running for the Prize Of The Century (i.e. your regular attendance) but as soon as they see they've been eliminated there's going to be some very sour grapes. You might possibly be alienating yourself from 99% of Glasgow churches. Unless you plan on making special guest appearances.

I've been thinking long and hard about how churches might work to fulfill my spiritual needs, and have come to the conclusion that if they replaced the sermon with some thumping techno, switched 11am with 11pm, and perhaps put alcohol on sale (or free), I might be persuaded to go.

Do you know any churches that might cater to these needs?

I'm hoping that Round 2 involves you wearing some kind of disguise and going dressed as a clergyman to the same eleven churches to see if you get treated any differently.
